In February, thanks partly to pressure from Hastings Green Party, Hastings Borough Council made a commitment to becoming a carbon neutral town by 2030. But how are we going to reach that target? We think a key part of creating a plan should be to bring a citizens’ assembly/jury to Hastings.

If you want to find out more and discuss how we might do this then do come along whatever your political beliefs. This needs to go beyond party politics.

A key principle of a citizen’s assembly is that people should be randomly selected but representative of the local demographic. This is what makes these assemblies so powerful: they bring together people from all walks of life, then help them to bridge divides, to find common ground – and ultimately to develop recommendations that can command public support.
There is a lot involved in making this possible including raising the money to enable it to happen so we need lots of support.
