Promoting or holding an event in the town

Promoting or holding an event in the town

Trading Standards

As the license holder for the majority of the town centre space, all bookings for promotional and event activity is managed by us.

Events

Wellington Place and Robertson Street are great public event spaces. There is usually 2 x 16amp sockets available in Wellington Place, but please be aware there is no running water and the nearest public toilets are in Queens Square. The area is pedestrianised, but the ‘road’ in Wellington Place must be kept clear of structures, as this is an emergency and delivery route. Please also note that this area has a public space protection order, which means alcohol sales will not be permitted.

We like to support local events that increase footfall, dwell time and spend, which usually means, depending on the event, we do not charge to use this space.

All events must go through Love Hastings, and be approved by Hastings Borough Council. All events must have a comprehensive event management plan, risk assessment and insurance. In some instances, you may be required to attend a SAG (safety advisory group) meeting.

Promotional bookings

If you would like to book a promotional or event space in the town centre, you will need to provide a copy of your public liability insurance, a risk assessment and sign an agreement. If you are looking to sell items, you will need to apply for street trading consent from Hastings Borough Council a minimum of 28 days before your booking. If you are a food vendor, you will need to supply a copy of your food hygiene certificate. Please note that due to the public space protection order, the sale of alcohol is prohibited.

Dependent on the nature of your promotional space, there is a daily or weekly fee for promoting in the town centre. All BID levy payers are entitled to 2 free promotional spaces a year, and local charities are asked to pay an £11 annual admin fee for unlimited (pre-agreed) promotional dates.

Our spaces are mainly located in Wellington Place and Robertson Street, in high footfall areas.

The spaces are incredibly popular, and we will always do what we can to accommodate your preferred dates, but please be aware that the diary can be booked up quite far in advance.

Please note we are no longer booking national charities in to Hastings town centre.
