John Bownas, Manager of Love Hastings, said: “Talking to shops and venues around town today the story is the same everywhere. Sales and bookings are down across the board and many owners fear they won’t be able to keep their doors open long into the New Year. The ripples effect of the impact of Plan B on thr leisure industry is being felt everywhere, from clothes shops to hairdressers as people shy away from traditional Christmas festivities. Without swift action and financial support the economy of our high streets will be dealt a deadly body-blow.”

Matthew Simms CEO of Croydon BID and Founder of the Business Booster campaign said: “It is baffling and alarming that our Chancellor is doggedly sticking to measures which are out of date and out of touch with the stark and desperate reality retail, hospitality and leisure are facing. Without swift intervention, many businesses will be faced with closures, layoffs and cutbacks masking the significant financial support Government has ploughed into these sectors during the pandemic a woeful waste of money.”
